PERSONALITY

Teenage: The McKinnon daughters were exceptional in school and gave their family a reputation for being excellent wizards. Being the oldest, Isla never really liked to show off her talent unlike her sister Marlene. She was feisty, spoke her mind, and lived life to the fullest which occasionally made her get into trouble. She dressed in punk/grunge clothes and listened to the Weird Sisters and other magical bands (Muggle ones too). She could always get good grades without trying, although her grades suffered occasionally from all the trouble she got into.

Adulthood: Isla became an Auror as she had a talent for getting into fights. Her sister Marlene followed her a year later into adulthood and became a lawyer. Their youngest sister Annalise was still in school when the First Wizarding War broke out. In July of 1981, Isla was stuck fighting with the Order as an Auror when her whole family was killed by a group of Death Eaters during a family get-together. Isla blamed herself for their deaths as she was a powerful force against Voldemort and this was an attempt at killing her or sending her a message. She also wished she could have been there to save them or at least die with them. For the next three years she threw herself even harder into her work as an Auror as she tried to expose and arrest every single Death Eater that killed her family as they did clean up after the war. Eventually she became disheartened with the rules and processes of her job so she switched careers and became a Hit Wizard. It gave her more freedom to operate and seek justice as she saw fit as it was a more intense and morally gray version of Aurors. After five more years, she also decided to open up her own private investigator business on the side to help others but also have an excuse to continue her search on her own case. At 38 years of age, Isla joins the fight once more in the Second Wizarding War as she no longer has anyone who can be hurt to get to her. Her life consists of working for hours and then returning to her flat to drink her problems away.

Older sister to Marlene, Isla worked as an Auror for the Ministry. One day during the war, their family got together for a celebration but Isla couldn’t make it as she was busy working with the Order. She put her work first and because of that, she wasn’t there when Death Eaters broke in and killed her entire family.

After the war and enraged by the deaths of those closest to her, Isla switched careers and became a Hit Wizard. She would be as reckless as possible in the hopes that she would be killed and join them. Her kind and motherly personality warped into one that was sarcastic and grizzled. A while later, Isla also started a Private Detective business on the side where she would help find missing people. She used this as an excuse to try to find people of her own.

She was constantly on the search for the group of Death Eaters that were responsible for the death of her family. She wanted revenge, in whatever form that would take…

Happy FFWF ❤️ your response doesn’t have to be long but I’m super curious: what’s Isla’s relationship like with Petra, Davey, River, and Septimus? (I know that we’ve not discussed Isla’s relationship with River and Septimus, but if you can’t think of much then maybe what her first impressions of them were? She’d most likely know them both through Petra and Davey lol)

Petra

The girlieess. I kinda HC that Petra might be the first person who likes Isla for who she is and isn’t turned off immediately by her strong personality. If she had any friends in Hogwarts they were probably just people who enjoyed the same taste in music or also wanted to rebel and make trouble. They didn’t really know her for her. Isla’s first impressions are that she is kick ass and hot (bi ass) and she’s very competent at what she does. They also find commonality in their seek for justice for murdered family. They are such bad influences on each other and bring out the chaos in each other.

Davey

This is all my opinion and it can be totally wrong but Davey gives me vibes that he’s good humored. So when Isla does her usual sarcastic cold remark, instead of being turned off like other people, Davey smirks and returns his own quip. Isla’s love language is trading friendly insults and jokes so I feel like they would get along like that?

River

This one is interesting because Isla has many conflicting feelings about him. Her first instinct would be doubt and hesitation. Divination and spirituality was never her cup of tea. She was naturally gifted in school but it was always the logical academic classes and not that. However, I think she would also be kind of frightened of him? Considering he talks to ghosts and helps people find closure with loved ones she would try to stay away from him as she would be scared what her family would say to her (ex: she thinks they would blame her). The last conflicting feeling is that she would like him and want to be friendly considering they have the same experiences of being orphans with dead family.

Septimus

I don’t know much about him yet but Isla can relate to Sep with also being an Ex Auror. Also I personally love his Ravenclaw aesthetic it tickles my brain!
