The siege of Fort de Rocher began on this day in 1654, when a force of seven hundred men under D. Gabriel de Rojas arrived to Tortuga, formally a Spanish claim that had been subject to  Anglo-French occupation multiple times, most recently in 1640. 

The siege lasted until February 21st, when French governor Fontenay surrendered. Tortuga remained in Spanish hands for over eight months, until they were recalled in preparation for th English invasion of La Española the following year.
