words like “homophobia” and “islamophobia” are not ableist against people with clinical phobias. replacing “homophobia” with “homomisia” is not helpful.

“-phobia” as a suffix just means “aversion to”

the word “hydrophobic” does not mean “afraid of water” but rather refers to a substance which repels water, as in a “hydrophobic lipid” or an oil that does not mix with water.

the word “phobia,” as in the term used with anxiety disorders, comes from the earlier meaning of “aversion to.” of course, a phobia is not a simple aversion; it’s a disorder that seriously limits people’s lives and causes terrible distress. it’s very bad when people don’t take phobias seriously because they think it’s just dislike. as someone who has dealt with severe anxiety their whole life, i speak from experience on this.

however, that is not the only use of the word “phobia.” trying to stop marginalized groups from using the language that we need because of incorrect beliefs about the root word will not be the turning point that makes people more aware of anxiety disorders. instead, we should direct our energies towards the privileged people who try to claim that they can’t really be islamophobic because they are not afraid of muslim people, or the ones who try to blame homophobia on mentally ill people.

furthermore, using terms like “transmisia” and “homomisia” confuses people who are affected by those oppressions who may also be neurodivergent. i know that i thought that “transmisia” was another term for transmisogyny the first time i saw the word :\

Really disappointing to know just how many leftists hate minorities in the name of bashing "religion"(Christianity) and how many just straight up hate Jews and think we're all Zionists. If you deny the Left has an antisemitism and racism problem you are part of it. We are supposed to feel safe on the left. Leftists are supposed to stand with the oppressed.
