Try this next time you fly your drone! Vertical panorama (actually a mosaic) from a video. Why not a single shot? Firstly, you have to be quite high to take top down shot of an island, even if it’s small (unless it’s like tiny…) So the 120m typically allowed might not be enough, even if you use the panorama function in your drone. What you can do however is to either fly in planned pattern (up and down and so on, until you cover the area), or use waypoints, as it is done in mapping industry. Not all drones support waypoints - if your drone is a bit older, chances are that there are 3rd party apps that can automate this for you (DroneDeploy, Pix4D, Litchi, Dronelink) that are either affordable in “basic” entry level package, or have good trial versions that can be enough to get you started. This shot was taken from a video flown manually and stitched from selected frames with basic Windows app (Microsoft Image Composite Editor). The prerequisite is a smooth flight with gimbal pointing all the way down at constant height. The images won’t stitch correctly, if you change height or angle of the camera. We stayed at Vega State Park and drove a loop through Grand Mesa National Forest. On the way there, we saw a ranch with with a bunch of bull elk. Wikipedia says that Grand Mesa is the largest flat top mountain in the world with an elevation of 11,000 ft.
