Oh I hope that message didn't come off as mean or anything! I think that the best way to stop ignorance towards illnesses is to be spreading awareness and information about the illness. There do seem to be a lot more terms/names for certain illnesses popping up all over the place... I can't help but wonder why that is.
I don't want to seem like a total bitch about this but it feels kind of icky to me. Not in a bad sense, awareness is great and I'm glad a lot of people are becoming more accepting and outward about their disorders but just as much as half the posts on Tumblr about awareness make the reader feel bad that they weren't aware of it; unfortunately, mental illness isn't a widely discussed topic and yes, is seen as taboo, which is why I don't generally speak/mention about my own, but with the disorders that there are, it's kind of much to expect everyone to know of them.
I agree with you about the Misophonia post. I had to google it myself because i've never heard the actual term for sound triggers. I probably should have put the definition in the tags, but then the original post should have had the definition in brackets. Not everyone is familiar with the name of things and it's silly to assume that people are. Yup.
Like I didn't mean it as an attack on the OP, but I've seen so many new disorders and mental illnesses come up all the time like "nobody cares about us" but they're not giving us enough information about them as they should if they don't want to be seen as "silly".
