And for the third time in three months I find myself back in Isolation. Thankfully I’ve got lots of books, internet, and my lovely girlfriend @twilight_leigh isolating with me to keep me busy while we wait out the two weeks until I can leave my apartment and head back to work. Because of the high tempo of my last month in the Arctic, I was only able to get one book read, significantly putting me behind my reading goal for this year. However, considering its 1300 pages, I’ll chalk that up as a productive month. In March I read Anton Meyer’s Once an Eagle. A classic novel that appears on most military reading lists about two juxtaposed military officers as they climb through the ranks via different avenues. Sam Damon, the protagonist, through principle, leadership, honour, tactical acumen in the field, and focusing on the welfare of his soldiers. Courtney Massengale, the antagonist, rising without honour or principle through staff positions, never holding a field rank, using cunning, manipulation, and political connections to serve his own unprincipled ambitions. It was one of the most engrossing reads I’ve ever had, so much so I was left devastated by its ending. I highly recommend this read to everyone!
