He had no one other than the Davenports that he trusted with his life; he wouldn't even say he trusted her with his life. She could end it in an instant if she chose to. Is that what kindled the fire within him? The heat that rose from something cold and dead every time he caught even just a glimpse of her? Venturing to other territories, risking his life in the current state of their world, just to catch a glimpse of blonde flowing hair or a hint of her scent.
Thaddeus saw so much of himself in her, though many would take that as an insult. He had seen the trophies she kept - the vials of ashes - a reminder. The vampire often wondered if she knew that he had the rare opportunity to glimpse into that room she keeps so well protected, so hidden. Had he not done the same? Did he not still do so? Scorchingly different and yet so daringly alike. They stood toe to toe, natural enemies, and yet neither one could end the other. They had the capability but never the courage.
He had his fingers tangled in her hair, fire hot in her hand, licking at his skin. They were in that position, again. Thaddeus could tear out her throat with one movement; Isolde could set him alight without so much as trying. Yet they stood, staring at one another as though waiting for the other to make the first move towards death.
Instead, he pushed forward, not caring about the fire that threatened to overcome him, and crashed his lips into hers. It was over as quickly as it had happened, Thaddeus pulling away breathless.
