Muse with MAG: Is returning from abroad and starting all over easy for you? (16.11.19) I stopped by to see an uncle in the city of Limbe in Cameroon who had returned from the US 9 years ago, and he brought me to his wood processing workshop. I sat down and my brain got busy. I am looking forward to attending the Returnee event in my city scheduled for the 20th of December, and am eager to hear what some who have returned from abroad and settled back home have to share about their experiences. Was/is it easy? I stayed abroad only for 4 years, but I came back when I could also decide to stay there. Indeed, I came with less than $500 to my name. 4 years later, am happy I came me back o; it wasn't easy but it was worth it. I also asked my uncle if he was happy returning home and if it was easy settling down and setting up his business. He tells me he is happy, that it wasn't easy, that it took a lot of sacrifice and still does sometimes, but that he is in a very good mental place that he had ever been for the decade+ he spent out there. Sure there are challenges, but there are equally opportunities and returnees have an added advantage if they harness a good vision before setting out on setting up anything be it a business or NGO. The standards of living here are still lower than out there, the facade to live up to isn't as yoking as it is put there, indeed you can even ignore that one 99% if you are lilee p hahahaha. There may be some lobbying to do, call it whatever name you want, but I prefer lobbying back home than out there o. And let's look at time, ha back here you can slow down and enjoy the sea breeze, have a more meaningful relationship with your people, partner etc, without all the rush rush rush I saw some yoked to abroad there o. But ha, to each their own, just me musing.
