#IssaThrowback I can't believe it's already been a year since I shot our "The New Nude shoot." I was working with less than a $20 budget, searched countless forever 21s, H&ms, and American Apparels all over NYC searching for "Nude" clothing for brown girls. (I almost resorted to sewing some myself) I styled, directed, did the makeup, and shot, edited, and did the write up for this shoot with just one assistant. (@ariannaapplebum you the real MVP) I remember feeling so stressed that day but also feeling so accomplished that I was able to , quite literally, turn nothing into something. One year later, there have been many many many downs and some ups but sometimes I struggle to find the strength to continue. However, when I remember this day and the models that had faith in me and this brand and participated in this shoot ( y'all are forever my faves - @mekdesmersha , @kristinaxelise , @jantaespinks 😘😘) it helps me remember why I started. To this day, this remains as one my proudest accomplishments and I hope and pray I'm blessed with the resources and the opportunities to be able to do more. To be creative. To be disruptive. To tell untold stories. To speak for those who need to be heard. To make makeup fun for those who are often forgotten. I'm thankful for y'all, thankful to all who have supported me through this journey including my family, friends, models, and interns. I'm thankful to have reached this point. ❤️ #TBT #CocoaSwatches
