#JackedKirby - Thor the Weary... One of the things I always loved about Jack’s superhero comics was that he was never above showing them weakened, vulnerable or hurt. As mighty and heroic as these characters are, Jack never had any problem having them take their lumps... after all, these bad guys are pretty bad ass too!!! It’s not uncommon for a superhero to face some sort of adversity and be down at some point in the middle of a battle... but not many people would START a boom with the hero battered and about to lose his powers. After battling the Rock Trolls in #Issue138 and losing his hammer, Thor and Sif are transported to NY where this issue begins. #Issue139 (published April of ‘67) deals with Thor being pretty much physically beaten down... he needs his magical hammer back, and if he doesn’t get it he may be trapped as crippled doctor Donald Blake FOREVER! An added bonus, we get a really cool Sif full body page alongside Thor to open the book. Kirby’s woman are always high points in the story for me since they are usually so powerful and carry themselves with such a warriors way. This is no exception!!
