hey queen, big fan of your work (/gen). i heard through... the grapevine... that PARF is. apparently using A.I. to write their scripts for this year potentially. you seem to have insider scoop on everything, have you heard anything about this, or maybe have the same inkling??? inquiring minds want to know your hot take, especially with this years plot...

Squeezing in an answer before the season starts.

Using AI to generate the scripts would be a remarkably stupid idea. For all the regular reasons, obviously, but also because by the time someone has gone through and properly Elizabethanized the language, 'cause I guarantee ain't no program got a grasp on Elizabethan English, they will have put in the same amount of time and effort as actually having just written it in the first place. Though they might, perhaps, if absurdly big-braining, have deliberately used a second draft as their scrips for the plot shows in 2025 (I am certain those plot-show scripts were second drafts) to create a precedent for dialogue that is grammatically incorrect and just kinda bad, if they knew they planned to artificially generate it for this year. That amounts to a conspiracy theory, and I doubt is why they used second drafts last year.

The other reason it would be very stupid, unless my housemate is severely misremembering (not impossible), is that the 2026 scenario is recycled from some decades ago – possibly sometime 2003-2010, but even that's uncertain. My housemate used to go to the Faire religiously a couple decades ago but hasn't been able to in a while. I was summarizing the plot-show descriptions for them and they were like "yeah, they already did this, I remember it". If that is, indeed, the case, then it would be right foolish to generate the scripts when the scripts already exist. (Human memory is, of course, faulty, and can make connections that do not exist; and I do not yet have access to the programs before 2011, so I can verify nothing.)

I'll be honest, I don't know where you're getting the notion that I seem to have insider scoop on everything, though I suppose I'm flattered? I have access to the same information that any other patron does. I save much more information than most folk do, and I'm very good at remembering certain details (not always!), making certain connections, and analyzing things in a certain way. Perhaps that comes across as insider scoop? On the few occasions that I do, somehow, receive insider information, I am always very careful to not let it influence what I put on the blog, 'cause doing so would incriminate someone for giving me the info (even if I didn't say who did), and I'm not a narc. Only that which I learn on my own/can learn on my own goes on here.

Do you know if there are any videos of this years' joust, by any chance? I'm missing that joust more than anything and it looks like an epic joust this year!

None yet, I’m afraid. I know that wavking, at least, has filmed some, if not all, but those videos are not yet posted anywhere. I would take it upon myself to provide you with video, but my camera has stopped working and I don’t know why. I’ll try to keep the blog updated with what videos have been posted, so you’ll be able to find the Joust videos as soon at they do exist.

Hey! Idk if you were at the faire this weekend but do you have any idea what “Jane the Fool is a horse” was all about?

Hello! I was at the Faire today, but I was not present at the birth of the joke. I thus do not know the details (ha, de-TAILS, geddit, ‘cos she’s a horse), but I know that it started during Boons and Favours. (I never attend Boons and Favours, because it overlaps with the beginning of King’s Court, and I much prefer chanting “Bridget” and seeing Sir Walter freak out than watching small samples of many shows.)

((Of course, if any followers who just happen to have been present at Boons and Favours *pointed glance* feel like enlightening us, I’m rather curious myself.))

last years cast of actors were incredible and i noticed that very few to none of them are returning this year, was wondering if you had any ideas as to why? dont see anyone discussing it yet

While I hope that at least a few of them simply had better opportunities that overlapped too much with rehearsal and the season, my strong suspicion is that most of them were either not invited back because management disagreed with them creatively (i.e. didn't like that they stuck up for themselves and their own rights and creativity), or elected to not return because management gave them and their castmates such a miserable time. This is based on my long-held understanding that the business and management sides of PARF are just garbage, combined with bits and pieces of info and inference from personal conversations and social media.

And, of course, bringing in brand new actors – particularly ones right out of college – is cheaper, since experience equals higher pay (slightly, at least in theory), and I would assume that returning actors are paid at least a little bit more each season. This is why most of the Bacchs tend to (in my experience) average at three years on cast, and also why they are always overwhelmingly young.

Hello! As a fellow parf fan who is trying to plan what days to go this season- do you have any idea as to who or what scratchy is from the Halloween themed days? The most I can find is maybe he’s the giant pumpkin..? I couldn’t find it in your vids but maybe I missed it 😭

So sorry for putting off answering this very simple question!

Scratchy is the giant pumpkin-headed scarecrow-lookin' thing set up at the top of the hill during Halloween. Scratchy doesn't actually relate to the content of the Halloween days – and indeed, at the time of writing this, the subtitles of the Halloween weekends has changed from what it was when I first checked, and (presumably) when you sent this ask. None of the Halloween subtitles have any bearing on the content of the days (unless they're doing something different this year), and are just there for funsies.

Words to heckin' live by, friend! This made me smile, and I've thought about it several times a week for nigh-on three months.

I didn't answer this for nigh-on three months, though, because I wanted to devise a distinctive ship name for them and propose it in this answer. I finally cracked it in the last week of December, and hereby officially propose the ship name of Thistlehound: the thistle being the national emblem of Scotland and featured in of two of King James' royal heraldic badges, and Monty being known as the Hound of Scotland.
