3. Rant. Just do it - Do you ever feel like you’re not going to find your person? Like, I personally think we all have many “ones” in our life, but, do you ever think you’d be lucky to just find one of your ones? Do you ever question whether anyone could find you attractive and or ever want to be with you? I don't know. It’s like I’ve lived with myself for so long, I begin to question how I could ever allow someone else into my space, or how I could be in someone else's space, and for them to want me there. I’ve never been close enough with someone, not even in friendships, not really. There are always weird lines or the fear that they don’t actually like me or some kind of barrier in the way. Preventing us from actually knowing one another fully. I’ve never just been unabashedly myself with someone, not fully. No one has ever known the entirety of who I am and I’ve never known the entirety of someone else. I think that maybe it’s almost impossible to know someone so well. That thought surrounds all my relationships in the context of myself and the other person. It makes me feel like if you just knew who I was, truly knew about the things I’ve done, the things I’ve thought, could you really love me? Could you accept the demons I have yet to face? And what about you? Can I ever truly know a person? Have you exposed your true self to me? Or will I find out when it’s too late? All these questions are rooted from something in my past, something that is still in my present. It comes from my fear of dating a snake. It comes from my fear of being the snake. It comes from seeing them in my reflection every day. All I’ve ever wanted is to accept someone for who they are and for them to accept me for who I am, to truly love someone who truly loves me. I wish I could have faith that things work out, but nothing is guaranteed in this world, I’ve seen that.
Anyway, did you know that something called aphantasia existed? My friend lemon has it and it’s blown my mind. Basically, she does not have the ability to form mental images. You’d think someone who can’t mentally see things would have a lot of problems, but they have actually done studies and people with aphantasia function perfectly fine. Many people wonder how they can navigate without mentally picturing where they are going, the truth is they can get to the grocery store just fine, but it’s reported that, for some, their sense of direction isn’t too strong and they tend to get lost. This also means they can’t picture...well anything. Not dogs, not paintings, not their loved ones face. They can remember details, like dogs generally have tails and four legs, or their loved one has green eyes and long hair, but they can’t see their face in their mind. At the same time, we're pretty sure I have synesthesia. We spent hours going back and forth asking each other questions about each other's abilities. I told her how all letters have their own colors and personalities, so do numbers, and how numbers 1-10 have their own backstories. Her reaction made me realize these weren’t normal things for people to have. She sent me words and I’d tell her what color they were, and I told her how the people I know have colors associated with their names. I’m still not entirely sure if I have synesthesia, but it is still fun to talk about. Also, I love lemon so much. We have the best conversations and she says the most ridiculous stuff and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s always nice to find people you can have good conversations with. We’re always learning from each other, she’s always teaching me new things, like how I should never take shrooms.
