So I'm making this painting for art class. It's my first big exam and our prompt was protection. My first idea was the love and comfort of another as a form of protection, however it was a bit "cliché" — in the appreciativley blunt words of my art teacher — so I dabbled with some other ideas. I suddenly had this fantastic idea filled with so much raw emotion that I decided that's it, that's the One™️. This up here is a zoom in shot of the centerpiece of the painting I did as a collection piece, a study for the painting of sorts. The whole painting itself is currently unfinished but I will explain the idea behind it nonetheless...
So, this idea stemmed from childishness, innocence and a society formed purity. How we hide from everything scary in our childishness at times, finding the same comforts. It's about girlhood in particular. I then said to myself, but what happens when they take it away? Because, as a young woman your girlhood is snatched from your hands by hungry men so brutally, quickly and unashamedly. Still you feel guilty, that somehow it's your fault, that somehow you're responsible. That somehow, maybe if you dressed a little different, smiled a little less, weren't as open when you walked you might still be able to walk by without being ogled. Men have made me feel so horrible as a girl. I've been made to feel like an object, a toy, something made for them to use whenever and wherever they want and it's obviously not just me. It seems like the path most walked into womanhood is not one chosen, but one forced, with gnashing teeth and prying eyes. I just want to be a girl in a field. I just want to drink tea and make flower-crowns with my friends, but men can't keep their hands off and their mouths shut. So yeah. And before anyone comes attacking me, obviously not all men. But just listen to what I have to say. Thanks. I'll post the full thing in a week or two, it's supposed to be done next week Friday.
