Seven grinned to himself. He’d enjoyed fending off the hackers of Hackers Chasing Hackers before, but this was even better. Yeah, she was still a member of HCH, but she was more entertaining.
It hadn’t taken him very long to figure out who she was. He knew that they all thought that using VPNs made it harder for them to track, but they should have realized that VPNs were pointless against a hacker of his level.
So when her signature suddenly moved from her normal base of operations to the comfort of Rika’s apartment, it didn’t take a lot to connect the dots. When her attempts ramped up, Seven decided that he would play along, never letting her get too close.
He smiled again as he hit enter, sending off his retaliation. He glanced over at the monitor that kept it’s eye trained on her living room where a blast of marching band music just barely covered up a loud “Fuck!”
She emerged from the bedroom, laptop in hand as she placed it on the coffee table before rubbing her temples with her fingers. She looked... upset. Seven frowned.
She normally didn’t react so poorly to her attempt being foiled. Her cellphone went off, and she jumped as she turned around and picked up her phone despite her clear look of apprehension.
“Hey, boss...” She answered, trailing off, clearly not wanting to talk. She flinched suddenly and Seven scowled, displeased by how upset he looked. It took him a moment to get past that realize that she was talking to the head of Hackers Chasing Hackers.
But as he listened, she avoided actually saying anything about him and his identity. Just insisting that she had a solid lead and leaving it at that.
She finally hung up, and fell over onto the couch, eyes trailing across the screen as the cats continued to march. “What am I going to do.” She whispered softly.
It struck Seven at how much he actually cared about her in that moment. She wasn’t just a hacker that he was going up against. She was his friend, and she was up set. Before he knew it, he’d picked up his phone, and her ringtone went off on the other side of the screen. She flipped it over to look at it, and a small smile appeared on her face.
