will and mack who would happily live in the pocket of each others’ matching suits, but who also understand that’s not realistic. mack, the hockey boyking, is of course going to go play more hockey. will, the other half of his dynamic duo, is focusing on building up for next season and fully recovering from his injury. they’ll miss each other, but they are also used to leaving.
orbiting on ice as they focus on each other. having to go apart to make plays, but coming together to celebrate successes. their thoughts orbiting even when apart. calling at the Olympics despite terrible time differences. orbiting each other in Boston, as mack goes out day drinking but comes back to will every night. orbiting throughout their lives, first as rivals, then teammates. orbiting this summer. farther apart for a moment, only to come closer again.
so they sit before mack has to leave for his flight. close for now until they can be close again later. neither saying the things they’re thinking: that they'll miss each other and call whenever they can and will see each other soon. neither acknowledging the something more that lies between them, because they know they’ll have time to later. they’re in orbit, always on their way back.
