ok but like Billy’s love language is acts of service bc he believes that actions speak louder than words (thanks Neil) and so he goes out of his way to do things for Steve. Little things and big things, putting candy and a cigarette in his locker, fixing his car up when it doesn’t start, stuff like that. Steve doesn’t think much about it bc hey billy does things for everyone even though he doesn’t want people to know.

Steve on the other hand needs words of affirmation. He always longs for people to jsut tell him they love and appreciate him and mean it so he makes sure to tell everyone that so they don’t ever feel like he does. Tells billy that he knows that he’s kind and thoughtful under his rough exterior, that he’s “really talented bill,” compliments him whenever he can, on his brains, appearance, character, whatever. Billy doesn’t think much of it bc that’s just a Steve thing, bein nice to people.

So bc of this, it takes them the literal longest time to realise that they fucking like each other and want to date.

God they are so dumb, everyone around them can see it except them. Like it goes far, so far, they are so in love. Steve tells Billy he loves him all the time, somedays he just looks at Billy and goes I love you before turning back to the tv, heart in his throat but he’s already resigned himself to receiving nothing in return but platonic love, but he will take what he can get. Billy is just all heart fluttering and heavy because that’s just Steve being nice, he says shit like that all the time always being lovey and complimentary, it’s just what he does, doesn’t mean anything, doesn’t mean what Billy wants it to mean.

Steve doesn’t think anything of it when Billy slips a gold ring on his finger pink cheeked one day, “It was my moms and it’s too thin for me, but I thought you could use it when you get nervous.” And Steve’s touched but Billy’s just being nice, has been so much nicer since he got possessed and nearly dies is always doing things for Steve and giving him thoughtful gifts. Billy totally slips it on Steve’s ring finger with the excuse “don’t think it will fit on any of the others” when really he just wants to see it there, wants it to mean something it doesn’t because Steve isn’t interested in Billy like that. Steve doesn’t move it from that finger, mouth dry at the implication he knows Billy is not intentionally making.

They don’t figure it out themselves, Robin spies the ring on Steve’s finger where he is twirling it around, Billy flipping through the channels trying to pick something that doesn’t suck as they wait for Keith to show up with the movies. “Where did you get the ring?”

“Billy gave it to me, isn’t it pretty.” Steve says all pleased and little flushing, Billy next to him flushing just as darkly as he adverts his gaze.

“Oh thank god you two finally figured it out, it was getting painful watching you idiot dance around one another.” Robin says hand on Steve’s as she takes a closer look at the ring.

“Wait what?”

Robin eyes the two of them like they are particularly stupid before sighing heavily. “You two are in love with each other, everyone can see it but the two of you apparently.”
