For anyone who was still following me there, I deleted my deviantART account. I hadn't logged on in 10 YEARS. There was no longer any point in being on there. I MAY start archiving my (worthier) older work here over the coming weeks. I may not. But if you don't want all your work on DA to be scraped for use in AI artworks BY DEFAULT, you might want to consider opting out (you have to do it for EACH WORK), or just closing your account for good.

Fellow artists: Deviantart isn't only allowing AI to use your art by default, but you ALSO have to submit a form to opt-out of it.

EDIT: Apparently deviantART is going to implement a function to opt-out ALL your deviations from being scraped for use by AI, which is good news for those who want to stay on the platform.

... Although it now turns out that DA cannot guarantee that your images won't be used in third party AI datasets. 🙄

I read Rose Daughter as well, albeit much later! I wouldn’t call it a rewriting of Beauty, I don’t think, as much as a completely different retelling of the fairy tale. Magic is more conspicuously interwoven in all their lives, and the sisters have different -- and more diverse -- forms of power and agency. I think Beauty was published when McKinley was in her early twenties (!!) and I appreciate her wanting to do a more feminist and fantastical take on the story when she had honed her craft... but Beauty is the one that holds a place in my heart, for teaching eight-year-old me that it was okay to love horses and ancient languages and thick books and unladylike tea mugs and NOT dressing up and going to dances. Of course, Hope and Grace are never shamed for enjoying dances and dressing up. Great work, Robin McKinley! Maybe I should write her a thank-you note.

As many haunting episodes as Bojack Horseman has, and as many times it punches me in the emotional gut, the one time I actually shed tears is at the end of season 4, the most hopeful one for Bojack, when Hollyhock tells him she'd like to have him as a brother
