How is it, in every choose-your-own-adventure book, I always die? Even when it’s a Jane Austen choose-your-own-adventure book?

(I was kept prisoner by Fanny Price, and eventually smothered to death by her nauseating meekness. Tragic, and also banal, to add insult to injury.)
