Scratches head. i think a lot of deltarune fans would do well to realize that a parent can love their child very very very much and still fail them in many aspects and the story can showcase both of these things equally, and pointing out said parent's failures isn't demonizing them... it's recognizing the simple reality that they are not perfect, and that their inability to face the truly difficult things can in fact produce a negative effect and thus we can now properly empathize with the struggles the child faces as a result
also, i wouldn't really take everyone in town talking endlessly about how amazing toriel is and how much she loves kris as proof that she's a perfect mother. like do you not think that hearing those sorts of things 24/7 even from people who barely know them or their family would perhaps make kris extremely reluctant to open up to her and let their unmet needs be known. why burden such a wonderful woman with such selfishness. she does too much for them as it is
