Personal: All I feel right now is relief.
I am just finishing up from eight hours of live blogging the WA election. It was pretty unremarkable EXCEPT the racist fringe party that has gained traction in the polls across the country over the past few years had their asses handed to them. The party, headed up by their foul, racist, ignoramus leader Pauline Hanson, (I like to think of her as one of the old, decrepit Wendigos Mike releases into the wild) expected to be a political force over in the west, but they secured less than half the vote of the Green party. While they may pick up one seat in the senate, they won’t get any more than that. I was worried they could pick up three or four seats in the upper house and all people would be talking about is how they are now a genuine force in Australian politics. While my country has a lot of problems, I am proud that at least in this election Aussies have turned their back on a party that is trying to sow racial division and ignorance.
