Good thing I investigated this late renaissance architectural sculpture at one of Rome's Quattro Fontane (Four Fountains) before writing a label. I had thought it was Leda and the Swan, but that is a different myth.
For a pedestrian, Rome is an amazing place. Small and compact, it seems every time one turns a corner there is something interesting to see, ancient, renaissance or modern. A long time ago, I saw the Quattro Fontane while walking to see the much more famous Trevi. That site was jammed with tourists, while the four fountains, smaller and nowhere near as famous but equally interesting, had no crowd. I now routinely detour through the intersection when walking in Rome. In addition to the fountains, at the intersection there is also a small church by Borromini worthy of a visit.
