Italian regional flags tend to range from absolutely hideous (My own region's looks like a bloody [company logo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Emilia-Romagna), to bad but not as much of an eyesore, to some actually pretty good ones, like Sardinia, Sicily and Lombardy.

Most flags are generic CoAs on equally generic backgrounds, metropolitan cities' are usually more modern and nuanced since they were established relatively recently. Some context: South Sardinia, having been established in 2016, is yet to establish most institutional stuff, flag included. Friuli Venezia Giulia completely abolished its former four provinces in 2016. Aosta Valley (that grey square to the north-west) does not have any provincial subdivisions since 1945. The fact that it's the size of a tissue is likely the main reason why.
