Ficlet prompt for ItaTenz/ItaYama or platonic. - "Don’t you understand? I love you, and nothing you’ve done, no matter how much of a monster you think you are, is gonna change that." Or "I won’t hate you. I know you think that’s what you deserve, but it’s not."
"Don’t you understand? I love you, and nothing you’ve done, no matter how much of a monster you think you are, is gonna change that."
The words are a knife through Itachi’s heart. It was something he had always wanted so desperately to hear, but now, standing across from Tenzo, his Tanto poised and at the ready to fight his former teammate, it felt like just a cruel twist of fate.
“Don’t say that.” Itachi forces his voice to harden, trying to hide the fact that there is a lump in his throat and his hands were shaking, “You don’t know what you’re talking about, Tenzo.”
Tenzo took a step forward and Itachi took a step back. The tip of the tanto fell slightly.
“I don’t believe you did what you did without reason, Itachi. I can’t...I won’t believe it. I know you better than that.”
Itachi cringes away from the words. Why should it matter that he had reasons. The blood is still on his hands. If he had been smarter, if he had been stronger, he would have found a better way. He was worse than a traitor. He was a failure.
“You’re wrong,” he snaps, hating how easily the venom slides into his words, “You’re even more pathetic than Hatake. At least he can accept that his only use stems from the power he stole from my clan. He knows well enough to slink away into the darkness, into the disgrace of another failure as a shinobi.”
Itachi clenches his teeth, forcing himself to meet Tenzo’s eyes, “But you. You fell so easily. Anyone could see that your desperate for anyone to give a fuck about you. It’s a disgrace. You made it so easy, Tenzo. You love me? No, you love a lie. A lie that anyone with half a mind could have seen through.”
Silence settles heavily between them. Itachi watches as his words chip away at Tenzo. The worst part is the fact that Itachi knows exactly which words to use. It’s better this way, He lies to himself. Better to hurt Tenzo, to break him like this than to have to cross blades.
If it comes to a fight, Itachi knows he won’t lose. Not so long as he has something left behind to protect.
Tenzo surprises him. There is a flush to his face. Anger? Shame? or something else? Itachi isn’t sure. But rather than shrink away, Tenzo takes another steady step forward. Itachi takes another step back.
The tip of the tanto falls a bit more.
“I don’t believe you.” The words fall from Tenzo’s lips like lead, “The lie isn’t our bond, Itachi. The lie is what you’re doing now, trying to run away so that you don’t have to hurt me. If you were the monster you claimed to be, the monster the village wants to see, then I’d be dead already.”
He wasn’t wrong. Another Step forward. Another step back. The tip of Itachi’s Tanto hit the dirt.
"I won’t hate you,” Tenzo’s voice is gentle, like hes trying to coax a wounded animal to stay still so he can help it. And really, that wasn’t so far off from the way Itachi looked. Pain so evident on his face, his eyes darting around looking for an escape.
“I know you think that’s what you deserve, but it’s not."
Calloused hands carefully grasped Itachi’s hand, easing the weapon that had spilled so much blood from Itachi’s fingers. Tenzo’s fingers replaced the blade in Itachi’s grip and Tenzo could feel the tremors that were running through Itachi’s body.
“I don’t want to hurt you, Cat.” The tears are finally flowing freely, and Itachi just lets them fall. Tenzo reaches up with his other hand to caress the younger man’s cheek.
“You won’t.”
‽
Sorry it took me forever to get to these!!!
Prompt- A hug around the waist.
Itachi forced his eyes open as he felt Tenzo shift away from him under the covers. It was clear the brown haired shinobi was going to great lengths not to disturb Itachi as he got up, but with how lightly Itachi slept it was no use. His hand snaked out to catch Tenzo by the wrist and tug him back towards the warmth and comfort of the bed.
Tenzo’s cheeks flushed a soft pink, “Itachi...”
Itachi didn’t want to hear whatever it was Tenzo was going to say. They’d both had doubts going into this. They’d both danced around feelings that neither one was willing to admit to. Falling into bed like this had been an accident. But as far as Itachi was concerned, it was far from a mistake.
“Stay,” Itachi pleaded softly. He didn’t want Tenzo to leave. Didn’t want Tenzo to slink away in the early hours of the morning thinking that what had happened between them was just the result of adrenaline from their mission. He didn’t want Tenzo to get wrapped up in his head the way they were both so prone to do, convincing himself that it was nothing. Or worse.
Tenzo didn’t say anything, though the flame in his cheeks glowed a little brighter and he moved to sit on the bed. He wouldn’t look directly at Itachi. So Itachi let go of Tenzo’s hand and snaked his arms around Tenzo’s waist, hugging him and pulling his head to rest in Tenzo’s lap. He gazed up at Cat’s almond eyes. He didn’t have the words he needed. The words to tell Tenzo all the things pent up inside, how desperately he wanted Tenzo to feel the same way, to want the same thing. To want this. Whatever it was.
Itachi was no good with words. So he just hugged Tenzo tightly and gazed up and wrote the depth of his feelings for Tenzo into his face.
“Stay,” He begged again.
“Kakashi will-”
“Kakashi can wait.” Itachi said firmly, “If you don’t want this, I’ll understand. But please, if your willing to try....please stay.”
If Team Ro was still together when Itachi and Tenzo start having feelings for each other it could get so funny and awkward fast.
Like they’re all training one morning when Itachi manages to pin Tenzo to the ground and they both hear ‘If you’re going to get horny now please take it to a bedroom’ while Kakashi’s chilling in the trees waiting for his turn XD
or during a mission one of them gets injured for the other and Kakashi starts in on a ‘self sacrificing is stupid’ rant only to be glared at by both of them cuz ‘Don’t fucking start you hipocrite’
and Team outtings would quickly stop being just the three of them as Kakashi drags Gai or Shisui along because ‘save me i Can’t be a third wheel to all of this unresolves romantic tension.”
Itayama + 12. Music
Hovering over Itachi’s shoulder, Tenzo watched as he searched through the various songs available to him “So, Gai actually agreed to let you pick out the restaurants music tonight?” He inquired, more than a little skepticle since Gai didn’t let anyone else pick out the music.
Not even Rin and Kakashi were allowed to pick out the music, and they were co-owners of the place.
“It took a bit of convincing, but yes,” Itachi spoke, but his eyes never left the screen in front of him for a second “I might have used the ‘opening a bakery’ card to get him to agree though.”
Of course. That move always worked in Itachi and Shisui’s favor when they were trying to get something out of Kakashi or Gai. They were so supportive of the Uchiha Cousin’s dream to open their own place that they would so anything to help.
Including, apparently, allowing Itachi to have control over the music for the night.
“So, what are you going to choose then?” Tenzo asked, laughing when Itachi brought up a hand to cover his eyes “What? am i not allowed to know?”
“It’s a surprise,” Itachi insisted, keeping his hand in place even as Tenzo tried to escape to see the list being made. Now he was kicking himself for not sneaking a peek earlier. “You should get back to the kitchen and finish setting up.”
“My kitchen is perfectly ready,” Tenzo huffed, a little insulted by the suggestion that he would be slacking off when he still had work to do “Come on Itachi, let me see.”
“Not a chance, Kitty,” Tenzo stopped in his tracks, his face thrning a bright shade of red at the use of that stupid nickname Kakashi had started using when they first met. Most people weren’t brave enough to follow his Senpai’s lead, but Itachi always seemed to be willing to push his luck with Tenzo.
It used to result in Tenzo getting really annoyed, since he didn’t even like when Kakashi used it. But these days it was starting to leave him with a weird fuzzy feeling that he wasn’t used to.
Turning to look at Tenzo for the first time since the conversation started, Itachi gave him a soft smile “I promise i’ll make a playlist that you’ll enjoy,” He smiled “Just trust me.”
Examining the Bar tenders face, Tenzo sighed. “It can’t be any worse than Gai’s choices.” he shrugged his shoulders. Not that Gai’s choice in music was terrible, but it was... cheesy. He liked Romantic music that he over played far too often because it was a good excuse to get Kakashi out into the front when the had little or no customers for a dance.
Tenzo almost felt bad for his Senpai, but he had choosen to marry the cheesy man so it was his burden to live with.
“One dance song,” Tenzo requested as he turned his back to Itachi “and not a romabtic ‘kakashi and Gai will do a cringy dance in the middle of the place’ dance Song. A real dance song.”
“I think i have the perfect one.” Taking one last look back at Itachi, Tenzo smiled when he saw those soft kind eyes staring back at him. Ya, this was definitly someone he could trust with the music.
About an hour later Tenzo was elbow deep in some pre-opening dishes when he heard the music finally turning on. And to say that hearing his favorite song playing first came as a little surprise, well that was an understatement.
Itachi was definitly going to get control over the music in the future, no matter how much he had to fight Gai over it.
“You’re Dancing,” His eyes snapped up to look at Kakashi who was now standing in front of him with an unimpressed look on his face “since when do you dance, Tenzo?”
“Maybe i just needed the right music,” Tenzo shot back, smiling when Kakashi rolled his eyes at him “it’s not my fault your husband has terrible taste in music.”
“i think it has less to do with my husbands taste in music, and more to do with the fact that you want to make out with Itachi,” Tenzo couldn’t see the smirk hdden behind Kakashi’s mask, but he knew it was there. It was always there when Kakashi was poking fun at him. “You really should just ask him out, Kitty Cat.”
“I’ll ask him out,” Tenzo insisted as he turned his attention back to his dishes “When you admit that you like the terrible music Gai always chooses.”
😪
Itachi could feel himself drifting. The sunshine on their small camp warm, easing some of the soreness from the fight out of his body. He and Tenzo had been left in the camp as Kakashi went to collect the bodies of the rogue shinobi they had killed. Both Itachi and Tenzo had protested being left behind, but Kakashi wouldn’t budge. His reasoning was the three broken ribs that Itachi had gotten from being knocked back into a tree with a jutsu he couldn’t dodge fast enough white he was engaged with three other ninja and that Tenzo needed to watch over his injured teammate.
Itachi had a sneaking suspicion that it was something more. Team Ro had been given the duty of dealing with the remnants of the root after Danzo had been killed. Many of those ninja had turned against the village they had once served. But they were Shinobi of the leaf and so taking them down had surely left all three ninja with their own various conflicted feelings. And while Itachi had made his peace with the idea, he suspected that Kakashi still wanted to spare him and Tenzo as much as he could. Today he could see that it wasn’t worth the fight, so he’d tried to make himself as comfortable as possible while they waited.
But the longer they waited, the more Itachi’s exhaustion seemed to catch up to him. He was in much better shape than he had been, but occasionally a mission like this one reminded him that he would never be quite as strong as he once had been. He wasn’t dying anymore, but the aftereffects of his disease would linger for the rest of his life. His head lolled to the side and came to rest against something sturdy, yet soft and warm. His eyes flickered open to see Tenzo sitting next to him. Strange. When did he move to join me? Itachi realized that his drifting had perhaps been more than what he had thought. He must have been beginning to slip into a deeper sleep.
He raised his head a bit, though about getting up and giving Tenzo some space, but the brown haired shinobi didn’t seem perturbed. His eyes looked somewhat distant but if anything Itachi though he saw a small smile come to the older shinobi’s face. Besides, his body was screaming at him against the idea of moving. It hurt badly enough trying to breath, much less getting up and walking around. And the sun felt nice and Tenzo’s presence beside him was soothing. So Itachi let his eyes close again, let his head rest back on Tenzo’s shoulder and let himself be lulled back into an easy sleep.
