Sashiko (meaning "little stabs" in Japanese) is a type of traditional Japanese embroidery most often done using white cotton thread and indigo-dyed cloth to stitch together pieces of cloth with intricate patterns. Using this same traditional white-on-blue look, stitch together an image of Katsushika Hokusai's Under the Wave off Kanagawa on the back of a patchwork denim jacket.
I sewed this jacket by mashing up two separate denim jackets--I took them apart, bleached some bits, and frankensteined them back together! It was a super fun challenge! The embroidery took way longer than I had expected, but it was so much fun to learn how to sew in the sashiko style! - Danalynn
