[The Framework and The Variant]

“Seclusion.” A voice rang out in Spire’s head as they slowly rose. It was deadly silent in their head, the nagging of a communication gone, as their eyes opened…

A pitch-black void was all he saw aside from the grey platform he suddenly was on…

“That's how you're coping, right?” The voice spoke once more as he turned his attention to the one speaking. It was a lean man with black hair, white stripes interwoven through it, seemingly in his early 20s or mid-30s… It was no ancient that registered in Spires’ syste-

Wait. Where was his umbilical? It was all so silent. The constant work of his structure that rang in his head was gone.

“Or well, could be wrong, I don’t know everything about you things… Iterators, right?” The man spoke up as Spires processed what was going on. It fell on deaf ears as he adjusted to the fact that he now had gravity.

“I feel like I’m speaking to a wall…”

A sigh came from the man as they clapped loudly.

“Who?” Spires finally spoke after being snapped out of their thoughts, “Where?”

“Thank fuck you can think outside that metal box.” The man would retort as he swiped at his grey hoodie, “I honestly thought you’d be a fucking ragdoll outside of it. Anywho!” They’d stand up from where they sat, and they would hold out their hand for Spires

“Your Spires, and I’m El for short.” Something about this random stranger knowing his name sickened him to the core. Nevertheless, Spires took El’s hand and felt himself get lifted to their legs. Shaking as they had never really walked ever… 

Guided to the larger area, El gestured for Spires to sit as scraps of paper were scattered around the place.

“It’s not the prettiest, but it's not like many see this place…” El mumbled as he sat down on the ground as well. 

“I should explain your situation, shouldn’t I?” Spires nodded as he crossed his arms, Cape parting as El sighed, shuffling slightly in the hoodie he wore…

“Try not to have a mental break.”
