Originally New Tech Post was called socialmedia.net. We changed the title because we discovered that as we were writing about the wider tech scene we felt that the title was no longer a fair reflection of our subject matter.

However, we have always felt, and still do, that the growth of social networks and their effect on us as individuals and as a society has had the single biggest effect on how we socialize and do business since the first electrical power plants were built.

Social media has become so much a part of our culture that a given individual can now become conspicuous by their absence from at least one of the networks. We have reached a point now where there can be negative consequences for not engaging with social media.

The Irish Innovation Centre, the San Jose-based launchpad organisation for Irish start ups coming to Silicon Valley, announced this week that The University of Wales will be opening an office in their headquarters in the self-styled ‘Capital of Silicon Valley.'

The Irish Innovation Centre, together with its affiliate organisation the Irish Technology Leadership Group offer technology companies a wealth of resources when they make the difficult transition across the Atlantic, including office space, conference facilities, legal and administrative support, and media and P.R. support.

Airpos has announced that it is moving on from releasing beta versions of its product to making it fully available to the public and it now has a brand new portal to its site. Airpos was one of the companies showcased at the 4th Annual Irish Technology Leadership Group (ITLG) Awards Ceremony which took place at Stanford University in April.

We were delighted to hear that recent ITLG award nominees and all-around nice people at Mcor Technologies are opening their first US office at the Irish Innovation Center in San Jose.

Citing our previous interview with Conor MacCormack from Mcor Technologies, TIME magazine's "Techland" blog also published an article covering Mcor's 3D paper printing.

The success of the Irish Technology Leadership Group (ITLG) in creating links between Silicon Valley and Ireland was acknowledged when John Hartnett, founder of the ITLG, was awarded the 2011 Spirit of Ireland Award at the culmination of a week of events around the San José-Dublin sister city initiative.

A delegation from the Irish Technology Leadership Group came to Ireland this week. Their mission was to offer support to young Irish entrepreneurs, and facilitate access to the skills, experience and wisdom of those who work in Silicon Valley. They did the latter by bringing over more than twenty seasoned Silicon Valley leaders from California to meet face-to-face with the Irish business community.
