Quidditch Kicking off

Tonight I broke out my Hilary Clinton swag (pant suit) for the first ICQT board meeting with regular players in attendence. It was really excited to have the Ithaca Hex up at Quidditch Haus tonight for the Rulebook powerpoint (thank you tons to my amazing assistant coach) and then the discussion of USQ rules and membership. We got so much done, so many good questions!Hopefully we can do this again for team members who couldnt make it. In the mean time we're going to eat pizza, watch Pan's Labyrinth, and I'm going to start up a checklist of to-do's to see if Ithaca can host it's first-ever tournament. I might be on the bench for a while yet with this knee-thing, but I'm damn well gonna be the best President I can.

Today's the day!!!

First Quidditch practice of the year today! Come meet the players and learn the rules, or just catch up with the rest of the team.

We'll be meeting on the Fitness Quad at 2 PM. Bring comfortable clothes and water!

Name: Madison

Year/ Major: Junior/ Physics BS, Mathematics & Honors Minor

Position: Seeker, President (Spring)

Jersey: Khaleesi #3

Story: The way I joined the team was really funny. I had just gotten on campus and was scared out of my wits trying to make friends. I was at this barbecue function the school had put on for us and I noticed that this guy had a broom sticking out of his backpack. I decided to try and take a picture since it was so cool to see this big, burly, badass guy with a broom, and as my luck would have it, he turned just as I snapped the picture. He then came over and asked to see the picture, to my great surprise. Upon his approval, I put it on instagram as he invited me to practice the next day. I fell in love with the team then and there. Erik and I still play together.

Story: Competing in the Northeastern Regionals is my favorite Quidditch memory of this past year. Aside from the competition, it was a great opportunity to meet people and I got to watch some excellent matches. What I liked most about that weekend was how we as teammates bonded, We truly looked out for each other both on and off the pitch and it made me so much more grateful to be a part of the team.

Story: I played in ICQT's first ever meet, played against Cornell in 2011. We beat them 2 games to 1, and they didn't ask us to play again for three years.

Year/ Major: Junior/ Business Administration

Position: Chaser

Jersey: Sven #64

Story: Sven is entering his third at IC and plans to continue his passion for playing Quidditch. This titan of a man standing at 6'4" enjoys playing a physical game and does his best to use his size, weight, and heart to dominate opposition chasers. His favorite Quidditch moment came at the Brotherly Love Cup in Philadelphia when our seeker made a game winning snitch catch to put the Hex up 10 to win the match. He is looking forward to the upcoming semester and meeting all the new teammates that come with it.

Name: Erik JAWS 

Year/ Major: Senior/ Documentary Studies & Productions Major, Theatre Minor  

Position: Keeper

Jersey: Oliver Wood #7

Story: The biggest memory is the semester I made that awesome documentary about the team. I brought cameras to almost every practice and game. At one practice, I had a GoPro attached to my head to record practice. Though the footage wasn't used in the film, it was hilarious to watch. The game could only end when one of the teams scored. This took longer than expected and I played the entire game. My funny comments and exhausted remarks were just hilarious. Besides that game, it was great to capture the team in the documentary. Especially how we are all a big family!
