Me reading my favorite fanfic:
I just reread “I’ll be something better yet” and noticed one thing. I remember in one of your works you mentioned that Jared started to go bald early……….. it's because he jerked off a lot, right? This whole time it all was a huge jerk joke?…
Lol honestly that’s even where my brain went, friend. I just thought Jared would struggle to accept the fact that he was losing his hair.
For clarity, hair loss is not something I want to ever stigmatize or make fun of. (I also have a medical condition where hair loss is a very common symptom so that would be a bit hypocritical of me.) Hair loss happens and baldness is just a fact of physical appearance, and therefore has no bearing on whether someone is attractive or worthy or appealing.
But I thought it would make Jared unhappy because all of the societal implications of baldness. And I wanted to make Jared an unhappy adult. So. Yeah?
ALSO: As a sex educator I have to say that 1. There is NO connection between masturbation and hair loss. And 2. There is nothing wrong with masturbation. In fact, masturbation is quite healthy for you.
am i still not gonna like zoe at the end of world spins madly on? because she has been... irritating me lately. i get that mental illness is not an excuse for evan's actions, but blaming him for ruining connor's birthday with his attempts was a lil fucked imo
Well, I can’t answer whether or not you’ll like Zoe at the end because I am not you. However, I can say that there are a few scenes that will feature Zoe that might shed more light on her take on the situation.
I think she is absolutely not reacting a way that is in line with people in her profession, and she is definitely not looking at Evan’s actions as being informed by a serious mental illness that can be really dangerous if left untreated. But I genuinely feel for her. Her brother almost died. Then his partner left him not long after, and the next time any of them heard from this guy, her brother is saving his life. These are pretty intense and traumatic events to process, and knowing how trauma impacts the brain doesn’t make it easier when you experience it.
Thoughts babe? @vinegar-and-glitter-fic
evan hansen precious smol bean has chalmydia?
Omfg, y’all.
First, if you’ve read that far into World Spins Madly On, you know this Evan is no precious soft boy. He has made a lot of risky choices. There are consequences to these actions, one of which is having to take a course of antibiotics because he got chlamydia.
I used to DO testing for STIs and HIV. Why are you surprised? lol.
Hey, how much time do you spend writing? You and Rose get so much written, it's like 2000 words every night! Also, do either you or Rose like eating kitchen equipment? You seem familiar with the sensation of biting into tin foil, is all... (Not sure if this bit counts as an ask or a dumb joke but I hope it helps. Also if you want to rant at a random person on the Internet I'm happy to help)
You are SUCH a sweetheart. I can personally say as a dumb child, I totally used to chew on tinfoil sometimes. I’d also bite ice cubes and chomp hard candies and generally treat my mouth like crap. Now I have majorly bad teeth so I cannot recommend anyone does these things. Don’t chew tin foil!
As for how much time I spend writing.... Idk. A few hours a day most days? For clarity, Rose and I DID have over 60 chapters of World Spins Madly On written before we posted a word. With It’s Always Been You, that was 3/4 of the way completed before we posted anything. So we’re writing fast, sure, but not normally 2k-3k an evening (though sometimes that happens).
For some context, both Rose and I have experience with tight timelines when it comes to writing? I’ve done and won four NaNoWriMos and Rose worked as a copy editor for a while. So we’ve sort of learned how to write a lot fast. But I appreciate that we seem like. Otherworldly word producers. That’s an ego boost.
hey! i love your (and vinegarandglitter’s) writing, and it’s made me curious: how do you go about collaborating on fic? do you write separately and then edit each other’s work? do you longform rp back and forth? i’ve only every written things alone, but i feel the added element of an extra brain sounds really helpful, and i was curious about your methods! thanks for enriching the deh fic community with your time and talents :’)
Hello nonnie! Thank you for such a lovely ask! Rose (aka vinegar-and-glitter) is actually sitting beside me in an airport and we’re both thrilled to receive this question. @oneofakindfic
So our collaborative process is kind of centered around a shared google document (or in the case of World Spins Madly On, about 4 google documents, because that is very long). We tend to write scenes separately but with input from one another, if that makes sense? For example, if I’m writing a conversation between Evan and Connor but I’m not totally sure what Connor would do or say, I’ll shoot a text to Rose and ask her thoughts. And vice versa. We also tend to have a lot of long drawn out conversations about stories before we actually put anything down in a document. In real life, Rose is my girlfriend, and we’re living that Long Distance Life, so we text each other a lot. Like a lot a lot. And sometimes those conversations are about fic stuff, which is fun and spicy and suchlike.
Because of the time difference (I am based on the east coast of the U.S. and Rose is based in New Zealand), a lot of our writing time doesn’t overlap. Which means that when we write collaboratively, often I will get to wake up to new writing to read, which is hella cool. Sometimes we’ll leave each other comments on bits we liked (or, let’s be real, comments that just say “OUCH”) and go from there.
Hopefully that answered your question! Thank you for the ask!
i know you said that tdt connor has bpd but i kinda think that itib evan might be a quiet borderline is that on purpose?????
So on purpose... no! True? Yeah, I’d say that’s a fair assessment of Evan’s mental health issues.
@oneofakindfic
What are your plans for in the inbetween in the future?
Hi there! Rose and I have three more stories currently in progress for In the In-Between. But please be patient, we are both very busy.
