Hmm Monday, Saturday, and ancient for the ask thingy?
monday: do you struggle with the ‘boring’ parts of writing?
Yes and no? The parts I find boring sometimes are like... the moments leading up to a Big Conversation or a Big Event. Like when you have to transition the story from one beat to the next. It can be difficult for me sometimes, for sure! But I read something once upon a time (I think it was on a NaNoWriMo forum or something) that when you look back on it, you usually can’t tell which parts you thought were boring and which parts were fun when you were writing. So that kind of helps me sometimes?
saturday: what gets you excited whilst writing?
I have three things! Right now, since a lot of my work has been collaborative with @vinegar-and-glitter-fic, it’s that I get to read her contributions and add to them or write around them? But also I love it when you stumble across an aha! moment. Like you wrote something ten pages ago and suddenly you realize you can connect it to something you’re currently writing. Or you like... find breadcrumbs of something you didn’t even realize you were leaving yourself. That is The Shit right there. And also that moment when you just kind of get in the zone and write write write without even really looking up for a while and everything just flows nicely and the words all sound right. That’s also The Good Stuff.
ancient: the first fic you ever posted online?
Sadly, I don’t believe it still exists online or I’d share but... oooh boy. It was a Yu-Gi-Oh crackfic I wrote with my friend Ashley when we were about 12. It was tragically stupid. Written script style with tons of mid-text authors’ notes and self inserts where we shipped ourselves with the characters and generally wrote the whole thing as if sugar had the same impact as, like, cocaine. It was called Yugi Went Crazy and remembering it keeps me very humble!
