It’s #fashionrevolution week so let’s take an extra minute to reflect on where our clothing comes from and how it’s made. Five years ago today a clothing factory in the Savar Upazila district of Bangladesh collapsed killing 1,134 people many of whom were garment workers. The industries designed to bring us cheap, disposable clothing also treat laborers as cheap and disposable. In 2016 I decided to stop buying clothing from box stores and while I haven’t been perfect, I’ve definitely managed to break the shopping habit. Here I am wearing a handmade bra/underwear and ZEBRA PANTS. 🦓🦓🦓 (The fabric for which I’ve *definitely* had in my stash since SEPTEMBER. 😳) Want to learn to make your own clothes? I’m teaching First Time Sewing at @textilesatlillstreet starting in just a couple weeks! If learning to sew isn’t an easy path for you, check out fair trade or zero waste fashion companies like @matatraders and @tonledesign 💙💙💙 #whomademyclothes #imademyclothes #sashatrousers #zebrapants #learntosew #illteachyou #itllbegreat #fairtrade #fairtradefashion #zerowastefashion
