how they perceive it can vary, ampen patton has something like synesthesia & associates visual elements (colors/patterns) with certain emotions, while ampen virgil experiences others emotions in a more tactile sense, associating it with phantom touches/sensations.
patton's form of aether reading is more common, and virgil's experience is still a little different than most tactile-readers because he is hypersensitive to aether (kind of like if a human's nerves were way more sensitive to touch). if he experienced aether visually, it would probably give him sensory overload migraines!
