Tumblr: toxic masculinity and homophobia are ruining everything! Y’know why men in tv are never shown being emotionally & physically close? it’s because the directors think that the fans of the show will call the two guys gay if they're vulnerable with each other!
me: I know right? we need to erase the homophobic fear of being gay that’s so common in straight (and queer) boys and men so that they begin to learn how emotionally and physically close with someone of a gender they may not necessarily be romantically/sexually attracted to, not to mention learning to be close with male family members
tumblr: omg this new show has these two guys in it that actually hold a conversation without being aggressive so we’ve decided they’re madly in love and now we’re going to take screencaps of every time they so much as stand next to each other because obviously two people can’t stand near each other unless they plan to get married!

tumblr: oh and this other show? it has a beautiful, loving father-son relationship so we’re going to draw and right lots of stuff about them being romantically and sexually involved! so what if they’re related? so what if we don’t do this for mother-daughter relationships? we’re striving for more mlm representation stop being so homophobic gosh!
