Also the whole dynamic of the Fountain of Youth is wild af. Its clearly an ancient site the way its portrayed, that Ponce de Leon *found*, and yet the way the ritual works is a really nice example of syncretism happening there:

-> 2 silver chalices that belonged to Ponce de Leon (although is unclear is he had them made or if he found them. I opt for the latter). The chalices having latin engravings means european manufacturing not mesoamerican. Ergo, the Fountain did not produced the chalices.

-> the mermaid tear involved, meaning it relied on ancient magic that was not necessarily "local", if we assume White Cap Bay is not the only mermaid waters (like the discarded script for the 5th movie suggested).

AND somehow the ritual is ancient enough that the silver chalices were depicted on the Mao Kung Map. So it gives more weight to the theory that these chalices were not made by Ponce de Leon but acquired from somewhere else.

god the harmonies between johnny and ponyboy at the end of Stay Gold so beautiful. i do not know music theory but istg something in how theyre constructed, or how theyre sung, it just emulates the bittersweet, teary feeling of reading that letter Perfectly
