this is a take that's gonna piss off some people, but i really hate the notion that trans people are inherently safer for trans people to be around because they ~intuitively understand~ and are more accepting etc etc
like since when is that true? am i more accepting than the average cis person? yeah. and it took work to get that way, and none of it was intuitive. open mindedness is a choice you make every single time you discover something weird, and for me at least, it was something I had to learn how to do, complete with trial and error.
Trans people are just as capable of internalizing harmful ideas about gender, sex, and society as anybody else - i mean, have you seen the way trans people talk about intersex people? half the time it's identical to the way cis people talk about them, or us for that matter. there are SO many trans radfems on tumblr, especially in current year, and we all remember transmeds. like what the fuck do you mean trans people are inherently understanding? no they fucking aren't
look for safe people, not for trans people, because that's not always the same thing.
