Had a fun part-day in #Odessa then sadly said "see you later" my besties. I hope they have a great final honeymoon stop in Amsterdam and I see them soon after returning to the US. Highlights of Odessa included Potemkin's Stairs, a big statue of Catherine the II, and this big ol' tough cat at the bus station. I've been feeling ill (nauseous, feverish, itchy) for about 24 hours and consider the runty little kitten all flopped over its friend as my animal counterpart. Day 61: Dumpster Drama

Chris & I moved into our apartment at the start of November 2015. Shortly thereafter, I started noticing which animals hung out regularly at the dumpster for our apartment block and the nearby blocks.

The public aspect of the dumpster drama took off in February 2016, with the pictures taken the same day as the above. There was a sudden change in the pack that hung around the dumpster and I expressed my concern publicly. The primary pack continued to grow and shift and I’d mark those changes with posts about the latest happenings at the dumpster with my #DumpsterDogs friends.

About half a year later, a big change happened: 

The cat mafia took over!

It’s partly because I genuinely follow the drama around the dumpsters and find it amusing to share as though it’s important news. It’s partly because I always feel more comfortable taking and posting pictures of animals than people. It’s totally something I’ll genuinely miss about Criuleni!

#MyAnimalFriends shown here live near me. Last night, I got to have a kitten party with 12 different kittens of various kitten ages. Since I'm not allergic to cats, it was indeed as amazing as it sounds. #ItsACatDanceParty (at Criuleni)

Day 37: Cats! Pisici!

While I knew a few cats before (Luna, Pippin, Hallway Cat, Festie, Saddam, the devil cat Trixie), since moving to Moldova I have spent more time with more cats than I ever had before.

A visiting friend noted that we had far more cats in our town than in any others she’d been to here. I’m happy to note we have a LOT of cats. They run the dumpsters. They walk bravely through town. They are savvy about finding food, affection, and entertainment. Chris enjoys showing people how we play with cats (dangling strings, dragging things, using lasers).

I’ve also slowly but surely learned about how un-spayed/un-neutered cats behave, how loudly they reproduce. In terms of learning about animal friends in new ways, I have certainly learned a lot about cats!
