Omfg I know. But like, it took me a while to think of a reason at all why Thomas would be 'the real leader' and 'the final candidate' - like the brain they needed, right? Because Teresa seemed more like the better pick, at least to me. But then I sorta understood that it was Thomas because of his so human reactions and ways of thinking. He doesn't know what he's doing, but he does it anyway. He feels for others, but can also be extremely selfish. He feels betrayed, and he stays angry (c)

and skeptical towards Teresa. (I would be too - not even gonna try to lie about it. I wouldn't forgive her or trust her that easily again if I was in Thomas' position, even if I knew she did it to save me.) And I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I think Thomas' a great character, and yeah this turned out longer than I anticipated so I'll stop now bye.

I FEEL THIS. TERESA WASN'T /THE/ CANDIDATE BC SHE'S A GODDESS AND WAS HELLA PERFECT AND THEY NEEDED VARIABLES OUT OF AN AVERAGE HUMAN 

no but really. i get it. he's very human and impulsive and emotionally-driven rather than thinking rationally and all that and that's why he was chosen. 

and god, i hate thomas, but i admit, i love him as a character? idk man. like i hate thomas but also i am thomas and i think he captures exactly what it's like to fuck up so monumentally again and again and being irrational and how being /special/ doesn't magically turn you into an exception to the rule that everyone is freaking out and not thinking straight and and all that. i mean, there are characters who rise above the challenge when it's handed to them by the situation (teresa, tris prior, clary fray) (girls basically bc let's face it girls are hella) but then not everyone can be like that. some people stay ordinary in that relative sense all throughout and as much as i want to punch him for treating teresa like shit and i don't excuse his behavior i get why he did it and everything 

some days i hate thomas some days i don't but either way, i love trying to grasp his characterization and i won't stop talking about him so yeah
