Building community through immersive theatre. On Sunday I got the chance to be a part of Sunnyside Impressions, an immersive play set in a hair salon in Queens. The play focuses on the people and stories from the neighborhood and the effects of change and gentrification while also celebrating 40 years of Peter’s Impressions Hair Salon, one of the oldest owner operated businesses in the neighborhood. I had the privilege of playing Angela, a stylist at the salon for 26 years and based on Christina, the amazingly kind and generous woman pictured here. It was an excellent reminder of the importance of community especially in these dark and divisive times.
