I went to see my thoracic surgeon yesterday for a check on the bars in my chest. I got a little shock. The surgeon said it's time to schedule surgery to remove the bars. I've had them in for 2 years. I expected to have them in for 3. It has been 2 years of the most excruciating pain I've ever experienced in my life. The pain from the bars was enough but with fighting cancer in the middle of it many days felt unbearable.The only way to explain is it has been like the movie "Groundhog Day", where life repeats itself every day. Except with this it is waking up every day feeling like someone just broke all your ribs and you must learn a new way every day to, not only get out of bed, but function and deal with the pain. But, hopefully there's light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully, when the bars come out, the pain will subside, my quality of life will be better and I can finally get on with my life. I've waited for this day for 2 years. It's finally here. Finally over.
