Why does the moon look blood red during a total lunar eclipse ? A blood moon is caused by an effect known as Rayleigh scattering. Earth is large enough to cover the moon with its shadow during a total lunar eclipse. However, some of the sunlight passes through Earth's atmosphere to reach the Moon. As the white light breaks up while passing through the atmosphere, most of its blue coloured wavelengths are absorbed or scattered. The remaining red wavelength light up the Moon in blood red colour. #moon #redmoon #moonlight #fullmoonEclipse #eclipse #bloodmoon #lunareclipse #sky #night #july2018 #27july2018 #kochi #redmoonindia #astrophotography #canon #keralafsrames #keralanexus #itskochi #natgeo #natgeowild #natgeotravel #natgeotravelpic #natgeotravellerindia #natgeohub #natgeoyourshot #EarthCapture #EarthOnLocation #LonelyPlanet #BBCEarth #bbctravel (at Kochi, India)
