We need to understand that romantacizing mentally illness is not beatiful and could be harmful for those who want real help. For example in "13 Reasons Why" the show reinforces bad stereotypes and frames suicide in a potentially positive light, and so it leads to thinking it is alright to romantize mentally illness when in reality it's not.

I hate this new trend in every book, movie, and TV show that if you have a mental Illness or some tragic past then a lover who supports and kisses your scars comes along and makes everything okay. That is not what mental illness is. #NoMore #ItsNotFun #ItsReal - A
