More mind-boggling than mindless, Lucy goes deeper and darker than I expected and while it doesn't all hold together in the end it's a fun ride that isn't afraid to go a little crazy at times.

The emotionless action ready aspects of the role sounds perfect for Scarlett Johanson in the title-role however it is surprisingly her early scenes as a partygirl stuck in a bad situation that register rather than the latter part of the movie.

It's an interesting companion piece to her performance in 'Her' earlier this year but the sense of struggle as her character develops intelligence at an astonishing pace was more deftly felt there, perhaps surprisingly considering that in 'Her' all we had to go off was her voice.

While this has the hallmarks of another throwaway action thriller (car chases, fight scenes, multiple global locations) in the end due to it's willingness to go balls out and a little bit crazy it actually kind-of works.
