The Addition
Junkrat fiddled with one of his bomb casings on the desk in his room, he was supposed to be wiring the bloody thing, but he found himself unable to focus.
She’d be coming over to his room to pick up her arm, which had needed repairs that he offered to do since Torb was still sick and Brigitte had a few large and complex armor pieces to make for Reinhardt. (And he could still hold her hand whenever he wanted to, but when he told her that, she rolled her eyes and gave him a warm smile and said, “Honestly, Jamie.”)
He was nervous.
Not because he hadn’t known what he was doing.
He wasn’t a Vishkar suit who knew all the complex shit to make it work, but he knew how to fix shit and he’d managed to get the fingers to work again like she needed them to.
It’s just, he was unsure if she’d like the... addition he’d made to her arm.
He certainly hoped so.
It wasn’t as if he’d added some sort of explosive or trap to it, it was a harmless enough change in that sense. But still, the- addition was still a pretty big thing and he was unsure if she would like it.
If she would accept it.
He heard three short knocks on his door and nearly jumped out of his boot before turning to his alarm clock, startled.
She was right on time, as usual.
For once he’d hoped she’d take a cue from him and be a few minutes late. But nope.
He was just going to have to do this.
He took in a shaky breath and quickly inspected his clothing and state of being. He was mostly clean... clean enough for a good pashing maybe, his clothes were pretty good on that front but his hands were pretty oily and greasy. He hoped that a quick rub of a towel against his hand would suffice as he walked to his door, “Comin’!” he called, his voice squeaking into a higher octave.
The door opened and his Goddess walked in, her dark skin beautifully contrasting her starch white blouse and dark blue pencil skirt. Her gold jewelry making the soft jingling sound he liked as she gracefully entered his less messy than usual domain and gave him a kiss on the cheek, making him giggle a bit before returning the favor on her lips.
When they finally parted, she looked up at him, “Well? I am eager to see how the repairs went.” She gently stroked his face with her warm, gentle fingers, “It will be nice to be able to hold you with both hands again.”
“Still say holdin’ you’s bettah.” he replied softly, giving her another peck before going to his closet, where he had kept it hidden, wrapped in a silk cloth he’d stolen from some rich bloke before joining overwatch, his face turning pink and his body starting to shake.
What if she didn’t like it? What if she thought it was tacky and demanded he take it off? What if he’d made a horrible mistake?
“Jamie?” she called softly, “Are you alright?”
“Y-yeah, Love.” he said nervously, “Jus’ a bit nervous for th’ big reveal, won’ keep ya in suspense fer too long.”
“I certainly hope not.” she said, gently motioning for him to come closer, for her to see it.
He did his best to keep his cool (which automatically meant that he was an obvious hot mess) as he carefully passed her arm to her.
“I uh, I added a little somethin’ to it.” he admitted as she accepted it, her face drawing in surprise before he blurted, “Ain’ nothin’ explody or nothin’, it’s more of a...” he frowned, unable to find the right word to describe it.
Satya walked over and gently placed her wrapped arm into his to hold, “Perhaps you should hold that for me so I can unwrap it without dropping it and see for myself.” she offered.
Junkrat’s heart was beating like crazy, his instincts were screaming about how he shouldn’t have done what he’d done.
But it was too late.
With careful precision, she carefully unfolded the silk and revealed her arm and the addition that he’d made to her ring finger and gasped.
“Jamie... Did you...” she seemed to have a hard time finding her words, which wasn’t something many men had ever done before, so he took his tiny victory and said, “Yeah. Made it meself. Didn’ nick th’ gems or nothin’, paid for ‘um, good ‘n proper loike.”
He saw tears forming in her eyes, her hand over her mouth as she stared at it.
“So, umm....” Junkrat felt as if he was on fire (again) his nerves making him shake a bit as he held her arm up to her, “Do you...”
“Avunu!” she shouted as she leapt into his arms and gave him a big kiss. While he loved her kisses, he would also love to know what the hell she just said, luckily, she quickly translated that into, “Yes! Yes, of course!”
He was in shock for a single second before hugging her tightly, relieved and overjoyed by a few simple words.
After a blissfully long embrace, they slowly parted and he helped put her arm on, Satya smiling the whole time and wiggling her fingers a bit before holding her metal hand up to her chest and admiring the addition... the ring on her finger as she leaned against his chest, his arms wrapping around her in another embrace that she gladly returned.
The ring on her finger was no longer just an addition.
It was a promise.
