It Takes a Thief 2x04 "The Thingamabob Heist"

★★★★★★★★★☆

Ricardo Montalban, Sharon Acker. Different feel to this episode. Less espionage and danger. Instead, it’s a battle of wits. Al’s target knows who he is and that’s he’s trying to steal something. There’s a lot of mutual respect on display. Both actors excel. Great chemistry. Acker does the nerd-to-babe transformation at the end (to distract some guards). Cheesy but funny. She’s great, but this is Montalban’s episode. Both characters will return. Fall 1968: Aired on ABC in Tuesday’s second hour after The Mod Squad and before NYPD. Against it: The Red Skelton Hour on CBS, Julia and NBC Tuesday Night at the Movies on NBC. 9/10

It Takes a Thief 2x03 "The Bill is in Committee"

★★★★★★★★☆☆

Yvonne Craig, Roger C. Carmel. All the best elements of the show are on display here. There is a very real sense of danger throughout. We always believe that Al is in jeopardy, that things are on the verge of going horribly wrong. There’s also the in-built ticking clock. Our hero only has so long to get in, get the negatives, and get out. And there are beautiful women. Both Yvonne Craig and Jocelyn Lane are smitten with Al in this one, and he with them. On the downside, the ending doesn’t offer much tension or excitement. Al gets away very easily. 8/10
