ITWB hit 1000 kudos today. I can’t even begin to put into words that that means to me. I was so worried when I posted it. Was it too niche? Too long? Too… everything…? But it was—and continues to be—met with such love and warmth and I am forever grateful. thank you all!
And that’s a wrap on chapter 2! I’ll take a short hiatus for chapter 3 and I’ll return once I’m ready (hopefully in two weeks). I’ll be uploading Chapter 3 early as I finish the pages and more onto my patreon. I can’t believe we’re at the end of chapter 2 already!!! I’m so excited to get started on ch 3, you guys will love what I have in store for yall
Into the Wild Blue is an absolute freaking masterpiece. I’ve it at least 4 times all the way through and read bits and pieces of it all the time. It’s beautiful. I love your characterization of them so much.
Years down the line say 10 or 15, how are Nolan and Tk? Good? Farm doing well? 10 kids running around under foot? Nolan’s cooking improved any?
I don't think I've answered this here, so 10-15 years down the line:
They're still obsessed with each other. Moved off of the farm and into town, whether that's just High Bluff or on to Portage La Prairie. The farm goes to the Lindbloms, naturally, and it's well cared for.
Travis is focused on his inventions, following his heart down that path. They have three kids—two girls and a carrier, in that order. No sons, but Travis doesn't care a lick about that.
Nolan's cooking probably improves, but so do most things with time.
I just finished ITWB and omg! What a beautiful fic! I have so many question and am wondering about the characters. I was wondering if you would talk about what it was like for Nolan at the very end of being pregnant for the first time, and maybe what it was like for Tk as well? I loved this fic, thank you!
oh man, ask away! i'm always happy to answer questions about itwb.
putting it below a cut for frank discussion of birth/pregnancy
not to oversimplify it but nolan and travis would've been scared! pregnancy can be so dangerous and was especially dangerous at the time. maternal mortality was a big risk during and after labor, so they both would've been anxious about that, and also the health of the baby. lots of babies died during birth and in the days, weeks, and months after. but both nolan and emma were healthy, so everything turned out okay there.
for nolan, i think he was just Over It. he'd been pregnant for many months at that point and i think that, generally speaking, he wouldn't enjoy being pregnant. sure, the sex is good, but everything else? pass. he's ready to have the baby and move on from pregnant life.
for travis, i think he was also just super excited. yes, they started a family way earlier than he'd planned, but he's always wanted kids and he was excited about meeting their baby and finding out what they were having and what they'd be like. watching his baby grow into a little person is something that travis would just be beside himself about, i think.
so overall just a mix of anxious and excited and over it. carriers don't gestate for as long, about 34 weeks instead of 40, but still. that's a really long time and at the end nolan really would've been like Okay Enough.
~ gender ~ is a whole thing, but is it safe to assume Travis’ attractions have mostly been with men? I’m assuming he got up to some mischief at university here
I’m so glad you asked!
I think that when it comes to attraction, Travis is fairly equal opportunity. He’s just: About It™ in general. Likes women, likes carriers, likes men.
When it comes to actual experience, I do think it leans towards men only or men mostly. That comes down to the fact that he would’ve likely done most of his fooling around at university. However, I can’t rule out a roll in the literal hay with a milkmaid, so he could have potentially had an experience or two with a woman before or during university when he was home for the summers.
I do know for certain that he had zero sexual experiences with a carrier before Nolan. All of his knowledge of Nolan’s anatomy comes from his prior experience + his research. Yes, Travis did research before his marriage. He wanted to understand just what he was getting himself into.
I am literally obsessed with your fic, I am so excited to read the newest chapter, I’ve reread the first two twice now!!! It’s unbelievably good, like the characterisations are brilliant, the world building is so immersive and true. Everything about it is just magic, I can’t wait to see where it goes next!! Also I guess I’ve gotta start canning and planting my own garden now
when I tell you that I’ve considered making my own butter multiple times just because i know how to now... I get you.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying it and that you’re already rereading it 😌 that means so much!
hi! i wanted to ask what is 'This Time Next Year'? i am enjoying into the wild blue immensely and i keep seeing it mentioned in the comments so i got curious
This Time Next Year is a really long, beloved Tyson/Nate a/b/o fic! It’s a personal favorite of mine because it really is just... tropey western goodness?
With that said, if you do read this fic, please pay attention to the warnings. There’s a lot of heavy topics covered and they’re handled through a period lens.
I wouldn’t say that ITWB was directly inspired by This Time Next Year, because it came about through a conversation I had with a friend of mine. He brought up “reluctant farmwife Nolan Patrick” and I immediately was like oh man, that reminds me of a fic I’ve read before. So while I had it in mind at the very beginning, I knew the kind of story I wanted to tell, and it’s kind of similar? But it’s also really not.
