The last few days were an unreal nightmare. Thaddeus can’t remember most of it, but he remembers the fevers and the sweats. He remembers some of the hallucinations. At one point, he believed he was drowning and he had scared poor Kai to death. Thaddeus couldn’t sleep for almost the entire week, and when he finally passed out, he slept for nearly two days--just long enough to ride out the rest of the symptoms. Thank fucking goodness.
However, he’s awake now, and piecing together his incoherent memories with a coherent mind has been nothing but unpleasant.
He can’t remember the last time he’s been this sober.
Naturally, his first thought is to get something to drink to remedy this discomfort, but...That’s right, Kai disposed of all of his alcohol. A century’s’ worth of aged liquor, all perfectly organized down to the ingredients used, gone. Every secret hiding place Thaddeus had kept has been exploited behind his back. All of his personal space, his privacy--that doesn’t exist now. Thaddeus has already been angry about it, but now he just feels disgusted and violated. Kai insisted that this would be for the best. Thaddeus cannot even begin to fathom that type of reasoning.
But...Kai did say that he would let Thaddeus have his alcohol back once he made it through the week. It’s been a week and almost two days. His impulse says to hold Kai accountable and take back what’s his; his stomach churns in protest as his heart dips down at the thought.
Kai doesn’t deserve that. Even at his very worst, lowest points, Kai has stuck around. Kai took care of him. The thought of letting the impulses take over now is not worth the “reward.” In a weird way, Thaddeus doesn’t want to drink if it makes Kai feel less important. On the other hand, how long can Thaddeus maintain control? It would be easy enough to go to the liquor store himself, but his body may not forgive him. He hasn’t even been sober for one day. It’s sickening. Thaddeus isn’t sure if he has the gall to go through this again so soon. Is it really worth it if it will hurt Kai? Thaddeus can’t get that image out of his head. He can’t forget the way Kai looked at him...
Slowly, Thaddeus gets up out of bed. Outside, it’s just past dusk. It’s likely that Kai is still at work, which means Thaddeus has time to make dinner. Something simple, but hopefully it’s enough to show Kai that...there’s no hard feelings.
