Ive been silly lately and started applying for jobs I (over) qualify for, but more importantly, jobs I have no business applying to (greatly under qualified).
Guess which I'm actually getting responses on? 100% the latter. I'm screaming.

do iv techs get annoyed when people bring someone in with them...? i wish i didn't have to but it really helps me :(
Oh no, don't worry! No phlebotomist or IV tech or nurse will EVER get annoyed at a patient because they need emotional support for a procedure. Our overall goal is to make you feel better and it's easier to do that if your body isn't going into panic mode.
I've dealt with patients from children to the elderly who've cried or fainted over a fear they tell me they know is silly. I had a sweet patient mentally prepare herself for 15 minutes in my room for one B12 shot. We'll never put pressure on you because any optional procedure needs YOUR permission over your doctor's. The patient gave me the "okay" twice before she realized i was done and she laughed herself right down to check out.
What we DO get annoyed at is people encouraging the fear. Because a fear of needles or the doctor isn't something you're born with; it's taught or caused by a bad experience. 9 out of 10 times, a child screaming in fear over a needle has a mother shaking and cringing in fear right beside them making extremely unhelpful comments. So a story like "i'll make this character, who was totally not afraid to get shot or stabbed or killed, completely afraid of little needles because that's CUTE" i want to destroy everything. Twice.
We're trained pretty thoroughly not to hurt you, as well as taught what can happen if we do. Most people are in the health field because they like caring for others. Please never think we're annoyed with you.
