❝ my brother was gay. ❞ the statement is abruptly announced, his head ducked, fingers tracing shapes into the denim covering his knee. ❝ i think that’s — why i get it more, why i can’t hate you for faking it. i saw him date girls, saw him try to love them, saw him kiss them and i knew—— ❞ isaac always knew the truth, well before it was said out loud, he wasn’t blind— and he wasn’t blind to mikayla’s wandering eyes either, to the clear attraction she had to mikayla.
isaac knew his brother more than camden might’ve thought, and despite what he knew, he still loved him, he still saw him as the hero he was for isaac. he heard the screaming the night before camden left, he heard his father’s cruel words, even if he pretended not to when camden said goodbye to him.
❝ i knew he didn’t love them. and i think i knew you didn’t love me like ... that, you know? deep down. it’s whatever. it’s over. i know. but— for the record? you were terrible at pretending. please never get into the acting profession. ❞ there’s a pause, an attempt at a comforting smile offered. ❝ you should, try, you know. being honest. and if anyone fucks with you, i’ll kick their asses, alright? and i’m sure scott would too. maybe. he’d at least give them a stern talking to. ❞
