Lepe ti je Zagorje zelene 🌿🌳🌲
______________________________________________________________
My boyfriend and I decided to spend our Saturday by climbing up the highest point of Zagorje - Ivanščica. Neither of us had ever been here before, so this little excursion was a nice first experience for the both of us.
We took the trail that starts of at Žgano Vino (where we parked), then went up to Mrzljak, over Črne Mlake, and then to the top at Ivanščica. The trail starts off on a wide gravel road and then turns into a steep path filled with barren roots and rocks, which makes it difficult to climb, but near the half-mark of it, after the grave of the unknown warrior (grob neznanog junaka), it turns into a nice forest path through a beech forest.
The nature is absolutely beautiful! Wildflowers pepper the floor and birdsong echoes through the trees. Most of the forest is covered with a carpet of wild garlic (Allium ursinum, 1st picture) which blooms around this time of year and fills the air with a distinctive onion-like smell.
There are about a dozen wooden sculptures situated along the path, most depicting typical forest animals of Croatia. One of the sculptures is of a witch and it overlooks Črne Mlake, a small muddy pond near the peak, where it is believed witches flew down to. There were also boards depicting the legend of Ivančica and Ahat. Unfortunately, they're only written on Croatian, but it's an interesting addition to the trail.
At the top, there's a mountain lodge called Pasarićeva kuća where we decided to get some lunch and refreshments. My boyfriend ordered cooked sausages and I decided to try the cheese pie and both were pretty good! Especially when paired with the beautiful view, the nice location, perfect weather and good company. ❤
It took us some 2,5 h to reach the top, then 1,5 hours on the same way back. I hope to take a longer route next time and one where the path is in slightly better condition, but It was a nice walk and Ivanščica was truly a sight to behold. 🌿✨
