One thing that resonated with me about Zevlor is how, in the beginning when you first meet him, he says that line about how “we’re not fighters”. At first I wasn't really paying attention, but later I was thinking about it, and like. Zevlor is a Hellrider. If you look up the background for them on the Forgotten Realms wiki, this is what you find:
"...were an elite cavalry unit who acted as the primary armed force of the city of Elturel in the Western Heartlands in the 14th and 15th centuries. The Hellriders helped Elturel establish and maintain civilization in these harsh lands. They were one of the most renowned and well-regarded military forces in the Realms. For a city guard, they outmatched the armies of whole realms."
So we know for certain Zevlor himself is a fighter, and that's putting it lightly. He clearly knows what he's doing and how to hold is own after spending however many years training, fighting, commanding etc. The man is top tier.
And yet, he still says we. We are not fighters.
Zevlor could have easily said "these people aren't fighters" or "they won't be able to survive without me", literally anything that set him aside from everyone else. But he didn't.
Despite his military background, his talent and expertise, Zevlor is grouping himself with the rest of the tieflings. There is no separation to him, he sees them all as one unit. He's an equal with them, not a superior to them.
To me, that says a LOT about the kind of man he is. It's such a small detail, and I'm 100% sure I'm not the first to have this thought. But thinking about all of that just makes me love him as a character even more.
