Who I am...

I am not a person who people appreciate and who can blame them. I am not someone you should. I am not understanding. I am not someone you can talk to. I am not someone who is motivated. I am not someone you can look up to. I am not someone who is good at keeping relationships. I am not someone who talks much when things get serious. I am not someone people come to for comfort. I am not someone who is sensitive. I am not someone you can call a best friend even though you have known me for years. I am not someone that could meet your expectations and the reason for that is, I could barely meet mine. And the reason I am not this kind of person is because I really do not know how to be this kind a person. However, little by little I AM going to be this kind of person and most likely better. I need to work my way to be a better person, friend, and family member because as you can see I am lacking.

I've been hearing a lot about deserving things lately. Between re-reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower to a letter from a friend to the new TWLOHA/Ben Howard 'I Will Become What I Deserve' campaign (if that's what you wanna call it). So I decided to write about it. 

It's been a long road to discovering what it means to deserve something, and I think I've finally learned what it means. 

With depression came pretty low self esteem. I never deserved the best, and why should I? Who am I to ask for so much? To think I'm entitled to things? And now I know, I deserve the good things in life. I don''t deserve a shitty father and unhealthy friendships and depression and anxiety and all the things I've had put on my plate, just like anyone else with problems. 99 percent of the time, we are put in situations that aren't fair. But that's how life is, and yeah, it sucks. But you deserve to escape from it. You deserve to stand up for yourself and leave your broken home and break the cycles of abuse and get help and fall in love and make friends and have fun. And last but certainly not least, you deserve to know just how beautiful life can be. 

"The real question is...who decides what we deserve and what we don't?" A friend of mine wrote a letter to me that ripped me to shreds and then sewed me back together again. She talked about going through some of the things I went through just a few years ago: not feeling like you're good enough and selling yourself short because you don't think you're entitled to being treated right. And to answer her question: nobody. You are human and you are good; you deserve the best. You deserve to sing and dance and play and become great. It just is that way, and the people who really, truly love you can tell you the same. 

"We accept the love we think we deserve." As overused as this quote is, it is one of the most beautiful and true ones there is. And not just with love, but with everything. You have to be aware that you are good and you deserve greatness. And that takes time and faith and patience, but it is possible; I'm living proof. I deserve to have friends who love me and appreciate me for who I am and they deserve the same. I deserve to have a loving family and to get better and most importantly, I deserve to love myself. I worked hard for it. And you can do the same. People will know, they can tell. But if you can learn to love yourself, it won't matter.

"I Will Become What I Deserve."  I will never stop growing as a person; no one does. I will never stop learning or changing, but as of right now, I like who I am. I love who I am, in fact, and I deserve that. You do too. So once again I'll ask: What will you become? What do you deserve?
